Who are we?

In an effort spear-headed by Tribeca Community Association, Canal West Coalition, and The Sanitation Steering Committee, prominent neighborhood residents including Laurie Anderson, Lou Reed, James Gandolfini, Jennifer Connelly, Paul Bettany, John Slattery, Talia Balsam, Michael Stipe, Casey Affleck, and Kirsten Dunst, have joined scientists, health professionals, urban planners, architects, artists, activists, business owners, long time residents, and other concerned New Yorkers to voice their support for saving our Lower Manhattan and riverside neighborhoods. A growing coalition of citizens is working together to create Hudson Rise at St. John’s Park. The initiative re-envisions the city’s ill-conceived plan to build an imposing 138 ft. high, two-acre sanitation mega-facility at Spring & Canal Streets. Instead the community offers a visionary and pragmatic plan that will bring parks and open green spaces to the community while incorporating needed sanitation facilities within it, and will provide a safe pedestrian crossing to link the in-land communities with the recently developed Hudson River Park.
